AFA 18th Anniversary

Riverside Park (Williamsburg neighborhood, Brooklyn) Created in the late Autumn of 1913 Oil on academy board signed to viewers lower left 9 x 12 inches (frame size: 16½ x 19½ inches) Late in the year of 1913, soon after migrating from Kentucky to Brooklyn, Sawyier is dealt a brisk day aside the East River to debut his talent. Sadly, the optimistic theme of this composition is uncharacteristic within Sawyier’s oeuvre. For the following 18 months local parks and water fronts become his studio. The time-space component of this brief stay, perhaps the most productive of his career, aligns with the mastery of his talent. 112 West 4th Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508 859 494 1206 • cliftonandersonantiques.com for more pictures and price • info@cliftonandersonantiques.com Exhibiting: Bluegrass Antique Show at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY, March 2, 3 & 4 Paul Sawyier (1865–1917)
