YOU RECOGNIZE A CLASSIC WHEN YOU SEE IT Wild Wonder The March Bank at Winterthur A world treasure, this remarkable five-acre hillside bursts into bloom in March. Begun in 1902, the March Bank is considered one of the last of the original Wild Gardens and is hailed as one of the most successful embodiments of nineteenth-century British writer William Robinson’s theories of naturalism. Heavily influenced by Robinson’s writings, Henry Francis du Pont naturalized hundreds of thousands of hardy bulbs and perennials to create this masterpiece of color and design. Today, visitors to Winterthur stroll winding garden paths and delight in the March Bank’s sweeping carpets of millions of sparkling yellow and blue blossoms. Spring brings month-after-month of gorgeous, ever-changing blossoms to this glorious du Pont family garden. To discover what’s in bloom at Winterthur, visit gardenblog.winterthur.org .
