Newport Show 2015

L OAN E XHIBIT Liberty Forever More than a century ago, a history-minded minister in Valley Forge raised funds from around the nation to purchase the original tent that George Washington used as his command center during the American Revolution. This treasure, and thousands more that are now in storage, await the opening of the Museum of the American Revolution where they will, at last, have a permanent home. The Museum, now under construction just steps from Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA, will chronicle the full sweep of the war—the deadly struggle between British and American forces as well as the growth of the idea of independence. Liberty Forever offers visitors to the Newport Antiques Show the opportunity to preview treasures from the Museum’s collection: silver camp cups owned and used by General Washington; an inscribed powder horn from Rhode Island ; and two recently acquired portraits of military officers – one French, the other British –on display for the first time in North America. These objects witnessed the extraordinary events of the Revolutionary Era and the people who changed history.
