Newport Show 2016

A series of exhibit vignettes presented by the Newport Historical Society collection features fine and decorative arts, furniture, musical instruments, textiles and clothing, artifacts of everyday life, architectural fragments along with an extensive photographs comprising over 200,000 images dating from the 1840s to the present, alongside postcards, prints, architectural plans and drawings, and maps. The Society’s collection encompasses the full range of social and cultural diversity that makes Newport County unique. Changes in collecting trends are evidenced through these holdings and are featured in the exhibit vignettes at the Newport Antiques Show, Curating the Future: Trends in Collecting Today . Personal collecting habits have also changed, and continue to do so, as collectors think differently about the “seriousness” of collecting today. Saving toys, shoes and cars was not considered an important cultural activity a few decades ago but today collectors recognize their value, both historically and monetarily. What do you collect? What does your collection say about your values, your esthetic and your intellectual pursuits? What is available from the Show’s dealers that speaks to you to add to your collection? If you’re not a collector, what is the intersection of your personal interests and related objects to launch a collection? The Newport Antiques Show is the ideal environment to explore these enquiries and learn more about your personal collection and any related trends.
