Newport Show 2016

What we collect is defined by taste, values and personal history. Over the last decade the Newport Antiques Show has celebrated this concept. Thousands of Show attendees have expanded their personal collections, museum curators have added to their institutions’ collections and countless visitors have learned about the diverse array of historic objects that are presented by the Show’s nationally and internationally renowned dealers. When selecting a theme to recognize the Newport Antiques Show’s tenth anniversary, it was a natural choice to focus on the interest in collecting since it is the driving energy that brings our community of antiques enthusiasts together year after year. In place of a traditional loan exhibit, the Newport Historical Society is featuring a series of vignettes highlighting collecting trends of the past through objects from their collections entitled Curating the Future: Trends in Collecting Today . Also Specialists from Freeman’s will present What’s It Worth?, an antiques appraisal event on July 24 th (special admission ticket required). This combination, alongside the selection of fine art, future, paintings and jewelry presented by our 40+ dealers – including several who are new to us and reflect our theme –creates a memorable weekend for collectors at every level. The Newport Antiques Show isn’t exclusively about collecting. Its central mission is a fundraiser for Newport’s past and Newport’s future, making it the only high end antiques event that has two beneficiaries. The Show is on track to raise a cumulative total of $2 million for the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County. The Newport Antiques Show would not exist without support from our Show Chair Anne Hamilton and our Show Manager Diana Bittel. We are grateful for their dedication. We would also like to thank Presenting Sponsors Nicholas and Shelley Schorsch along with William and Elizabeth Kahane; our Gala Preview Party Sponsor Franklin & Company Design Associates; and our Tenth Anniversary Sponsor Freeman’s Auctioneers and Appraisers. Thank You —continued— 25
