Summer 2015 Preview

During President’s Day weekend, over 50,000 private collectors, museum curators, and interior designers flocked to the Palm Beach County Convention Center to attend the esteemed Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show. Produced by the Palm Beach Show Group, the event is a perennial favorite among art and design connoisseurs, leading professionals, and celebrated international dealers. The Palm Beach Show, which usually runs back-to-back with David Lester’s International Fine Art & Antique Fair, was the only event of its kind in Palm Beach this winter season. As an increasing number of high-end dealers, including Mallett, Waterhouse & Dodd, Cohen & Cohen, Peter Finer, and Richard Green, continued to migrate from the International Fine Art & Antique Fair to the Palm Beach Show, Lester decided to shut down the event after an eighteen-year run. The Palm Beach Show continues to flourish and attendees at this year’s show were given the opportunity to view and buy more than a billion dollars in offerings from 182 of the world’s leading galleries and dealers. The Palm Beach Show’s opening night festivities kicked off with a Private Collector’s Preview, followed by an invitation-only Heroes Reception, which honored the American Red Cross—the show’s official charity partner. Collectors in attendance included Steven Stolman, Henry Buhl, Andrea Stark, and Jean Shafiroff. During the event, Scott Diament, CEO and President of the Palm Beach Show Group, presented the American Red Cross with a check for $10,000. The 2015 Palm Beach Show featured an impressive selection of offerings, including fine art, silver, glass, textiles, porcelain, furniture, and jewelry, ranging in style from classical to contemporary. Diament said, The show has been a huge success. It met our expectations and we are delighted with the growth, recognition, and caliber of our exhibitors. The 2015 holiday weekend proved a boon for all, with numerous sales and a heavy volume of visitors showing major interest across a wide spectrum of offerings, from dazzling jewelry and accessories to rare antiques and paintings from established as well as iconic artists.” A number of sales took place at the Opening Night Preview and the brisk pace continued throughout the five-day show. Top sales included a Paul Gauguin painting of Sevres, France, from Guarisco Gallery; a silver-bronze Raymond Guerbe sculpture on a portoro marble base from Valerio Antiques; a rare molded Zinc lady tennis player weathervane in gilt surface from Roberto Freitas; and a Jean Dufy watercolor titled Clowns Musiciens from the Galerie Jacques Bailly. In addition to a well attended and informative Lecture Series, the Palm Beach Show featured a Designer Showcase comprising six captivating vignettes created by the world’s most influential interior designers, including the Showcase’s Chair, Campion Platt, Suzanne Kasler, Gil Walsh, William and Phyllis Taylor of Taylor & Taylor, Lars Bolander, and Jennifer Garrigues. The designers were asked to create spaces using fine art, furniture, and decorative accessories from exhibitors in the show, illustrating how antiques can be integrated into contemporary interiors to elevate and enhance today’s environments. This August, the Palm Beach Show Group will present the Baltimore Summer Antiques Show at the Baltimore Convention Center. Now in its 35th year, the expansive fair is the largest indoor summer fine art, antiques, and jewelry show in the country. This year’s Baltimore Summer Antiques Show will include Art Baltimore—a “show within a show” that will feature a selection of international galleries showcasing fine art and sculpture ranging from old European masters to contemporary works. The Baltimore Summer Antiques Show will also include the Antiquarian Book Fair.
