Yet despite Henri’s fame, his Southwestern portraits, like Lucinda —an image of one of his favorite models in Santa Fe whom he painted at least eleven times in 1916 and another fifteen in 1917—were rarely exhibited in his lifetime. Henri scholar Valerie Ann Leeds notes, “Lucinda is a rarity among models as there were few he painted so often and over consecutive seasons.”  1 Robert Henri (American, 1865–1929), Lucinda, 1917.
