Washington Winter Show 2019

The Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services (SJCS) serves as a historic connection to the past and an essential link to the future in the role of supporting marginalized people in Washington, DC. In 1868, the Ladies Aid Society of Saint John’s Episcopal Church founded the agency to assist people in the aftermath of the Civil War. Today, The Founders Board carries on the tradition of the Ladies Aid Society by working to achieve the SJCS mission – advancing inclusive communities where every person, regardless of circumstances, has the right and opportunity to live their best life. For over 150 years, members’ continued dedication to supporting the most vulnerable in Washington, DC has been the backbone of SJCS. The funds raised by The Founders Board support St. John’s Community Services programs in Washington, DC. Some of the ways SJCS-DC uses these funds include: • providing support for individuals to develop job skills and to seek fulfilling employment in the community; • strengthening the ART Options program which works to develop employment, social, communication, and life management skills through art; • providing advanced technological solutions to increase independence for people in their homes; and • providing opportunities for individuals to participate in community activities and develop relationship skills and an increased sense of personal value.
