More than eighty top dealers drew in over 25,000 classic and contemporary art lovers. Crowds wrapped around the block waiting to enter the opening night of the event. Doormen in white silk gloves welcomed stars and socialites alike. The four day show was catered by the distinguished Le Cirque International Restaurant and diners were served in the elegant Tiffany Room. “I’ve been doing shows in New York for many years and I’ve never seen an Opening Night with attendance of this caliber—both quality and quantity of people,” exclaimed David Brooker of David Brooker Fine Art. Some of the country’s leading interior designers including Scott Snyder, Ellie Cullman, Lisa Jackson, Campion Platt, and Geoffrey Bradfield shopped the show, bringing their knowledge and expertise to clients and attendees throughout the weekend. “The show was just so alive,” stated Scott Snyder, “There is an energy here that is unparalleled in any other show of this kind.” “As the first important event of the season, we were able to bring together an elite group of international dealers,” said Scott Diament, President/CEO of the Palm Beach Show Group. Diament also commented on the many notable sales: “Out of the gate, this show has exceeded our expectations of excellence. We are thrilled, but not surprised by the heavy volume of sales and major interest in this Show.” Some of the notable sales included a magnificent pair of Tiffany Studios Moorish Chandeliers sold by Ophir Gallery ; hand blown Galaxy Bowls by Abby Modell sold by Clark Priftis Art; Masterworks Fine Art sold a pair of Marc Chagall color lithographs on Arches paper: Carmen , 1966 and La flute enchantee , 1967; and Rehs Galleries sold a notable Antoine Blanchard oil on canvas titled, Café de la Paix .
