Mont- gomery of Winterthur so describes their closely-related sideboard illustrated in American Furniture: The Federal Period (fig. 359). Holmes Weaver (1769-1848) of Newport, appears to be the likely maker, as only he is known to have advertised this form, as shown in the above ad, which ran from 1802 through 1803.
