ADA Show 2011

Georgian designs became popular emblems of cultural sophistication in the American colonies The Georgian era (1714–1830) refers to the period when four kings, all named George, successively occupied the British throne. Even though fashions in architecture, interior design, and decorative furnishings changed during that time, the Georgian style based on elegance, balance, and symmetry achieved favor in Great Britain and its colonies in North America. Historic Deerfield will delve into the creative spirit of Colonial America during the upcoming symposium “Balance and Beauty: Georgian Design in Early America,” taking place November 11–13. Beginning with a full-day of workshops on Friday, the program will continue with six lectures on Saturday and Sunday including a keynote address by Dr. Adam Bowett, Independent Furniture Scholar and author of the acclaimed book Early Georgian Furniture, 1715–1740 (2009). Presenters will include: • Kimberly Alexander, Chief Curator, Strawbery Banke Museum • Dr. Adam Bowett, Independent Furniture Scholar • Craig Farrow, Master Furniture Maker • William A.
