Charleston Antiques Show 2013

2013 / 7 W ELCOME TO C HARLESTON ! I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone attending the 10th Annual Charleston Antiques Show, in Charleston, SC—a city that embraces its history and culture. The Charleston Antiques Show, March 22–24, 2013, attracts visitors from throughout the United States and beyond who appreciate the opportunity to see an outstanding collection of antique fine and decorative arts. Appropriately, the Antiques Show benefits Historic Charleston Foundation, which for 66 years has been a leader in protecting the architectural, historical and cultural integrity of the city and its environs. Charleston’s unique blend of European, English, Asian and Caribbean influences are preserved today in the city’s architecture, interiors and gardens and are demonstrated in this year’s display of antiques. As Colonial America’s most significant seaport, Charleston is the ideal venue for a world-class antiques show. The vibrant shipping trade that developed soon after Charles Town was founded in 1670 brought to the Lowcountry the most desirable 17th and 18th century fine and decorative arts in the world. Charleston’s rich history and style will be featured during the Foundation’s 66th Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens, one of America’s most distinguished heritage tours, March 21–April 20, 2013. Along with Festival tours, visitors can take in all that Charleston has to offer including tours of the city’s historic museum houses, including the Foundation’s own Nathaniel Russell House and Aiken-Rhett House. By attending the Charleston Antiques Show and the Festival of Houses and Gardens, you are supporting the Foundation’s mission of preserving the unique and distinguished heritage of Charleston. Each event has substantial historical and cultural significance; taken together, they present you with an extraordinary opportunity to enjoy and support Charleston’s continuing legacy. The City of Charleston is again delighted to present some of the world’s finest art and antique treasures. Please know that your support of the Antiques Show and the Festival of Houses and Gardens helps the Foundation preserve Charleston’s past and ensure its future. Thank you for sharing in Charleston’s legacy. Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Mayor, City of Charleston
