Incollect Magazine - Issue 15

10 www.incollect.com HAPPENINGS Design Miami returns to a tent adjacent to Art Basel at the Miami Beach Convention Center December 1–6 for its 2026 flagship edition, bringing together more than 75 exhibitors across galleries, Curios, Special Projects and partner programs. This year’s curatorial theme, “Unveiling,” led by Curatorial Director Charlene Prempeh, asks visitors to look beyond an object’s surface to the craftsmanship, ideas and cultural histories embedded within it. “This is our flagship fair, and 2026 is one of our strongest editions yet,” says Jen Roberts, Design Miami CEO. “ ‘Unveiling’ asks our galleries, designers, and collectors to look past the surface of an object and find what makes it matter: the craft, the history, the idea.” Process and material experimentation run throughout the fair. Incollect dealers will be making a strong showing: Wexler Gallery brings together metalwork, ceramics, glass, wood and resin, including Richard Haining’s STACKED works made from thousands of pieces of salvaged New York City wood, and Thomsen Gallery explores generations of Japanese bamboo artistry alongside ceramics, bronze, lacquer and folding screens. Other Incollect dealers’ presentations reconsider familiar materials and forms. Boccara Gallery will exhibit tapestries after works by Man Ray, Le Corbusier, Sonia Delaunay and Alexander Calder. For their Design Miami debut, Haddadin Design will present a carefully curated selection of exceptional Finnish design, tracing the intertwined stories of designers, objects, and provenance throughout the 20th century, including rare commissioned pieces by Finnish lighting designer Paavo Tynell. Moderne Gallery and Todd Merrill Studio are participating with ambitious theme booths. Moderne Gallery’s curated selection will bring together historic and contemporary works that honor the natural world through material, craftsmanship, and a shared philosophy of making. Todd Merrill Studio will be showing works by artists who have developed cutting-edge techniques that surpass the limitations of wood, metal, ceramics, and textiles, including Mindy Horn’s astoundingly intricate, 4-foot-wide porcelain Still Life. Special Projects expands the international scope. Achille Salvagni explores the ancient technique of parchment-clad wood, while EMERGE — New Asian Narratives gathers 11 designers and studios from across Southeast Asia. Among the Curios, Victoria Yakusha presents NADRA, an exploration of physical and emotional depth through animistic form, while Klove Studio creates Enchanted Forest, a glowing landscape of hand-blown glass mushrooms, buds and blossoms.
