Nantucket Show 2011

6 Janet L. Sherlund NHA President, Board of Trustees From the President On behalf of the board of trustees and all members of the Nantucket Historical Association, I thank you for your support of our major fund-raising event! The funds raised by the show are critical for the NHA to continue its mission to preserve and interpret the history of this special island! We are very grateful to this year’s chair, Sara Boyce, and vice chair, Anne Marie Bratton, for their dedicated and passionate leadership. Sara and Anne Marie have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the success of this important event. They led an Antiques Show Committee of over a hundred volunteers whose commitment to the NHA is deeply appreciated! The NHA is thrilled to have Victoria Hagan as our 2011 Honorary Chair! As founder of Victoria Hagan Interiors in New York City, she is a renowned designer and member of the Interior Design Hall of Fame. Victoria speaks widely on design issues, and her work is featured in many publications. Thank you, also, to the Antiques Council, whose management of this show brings the best exhibitors in their fields to present antiques of the highest caliber. I would like to acknowledge the generous support of our Underwriters, Philanthropists, Founders, and Chair’s Circle. Their leadership support of the NHA is inspiring, and they have our heartfelt gratitude. This summer we have enjoyed two wonderful examples of ways in which the NHA preserves and interprets Nantucket history. After monitoring its several years in production, we are honored to present Ric Burns’s film Nantucket, which is shown daily in the Whaling Museum. The film captures and preserves the full arc of Nantucket history, and gloriously illustrates why the story of this windswept island is so significant in world history. We have also opened the restored Greater Light, one of the twenty-two historic sites and properties that we own and maintain. The enchanting Greater Light allows us to interpret the history of Nantucket as a resort and art colony, and serves as well as a venue for the current arts community on island. That was its role many years ago when the Monaghan sisters hosted gatherings of artists, poets, and musicians in their magical home. But now, on to the Antiques Show! We look forward to seeing you there, and thank you, again, for your support!
