A Lalique “Bacchantes” Amber Frosted Crystal Vase , signed and numbered “Lalique France 932” on outer base, engraved on bottom, “1927-2007 Edition Anniversaire”, cylindrical base embossed with nude dancing maenads, height 9 3/4 in., diameter 8 1/2 in. $2000/3000 Provenance: Collection of Dr. Roger Hatchette, New Orleans, LA. Note: Lalique presented the “Bacchantes” vase in the 1927 Paris Exposition to great acclaim. An ode to femininity, this round of sculptural nudes in relief is typical of Lalique’s style and captures one of the “3Fs” – the Female Form, Flora, and Fauna - in which he drew his inspiration. Over the company’s history, it has remained one of the best-selling designs and has been released in various shades of frosted and opalescent glass. The amber version presented here commemorates the 80th anniversary of the “Bacchantes” eponymous debut. References: Elliot, Kelley Jo. Rene Lalique: Enchanted by Glass . Note: According to Marie-Claude Lalique, the inspiration for Marrakech came during a trip to Morocco, where she witnessed the majestic beauty of fallen palm trees. The rich amber color of the vase alludes to the parched land and sands of the desert territory. During her career with the Lalique firm, Marie-Claude Lalique often incorporated into her designs the rich colors and exotic motifs found in nature, a subject matter that she encountered during her extensive travels.
