Henry Benbridge (1743–1812) Richard Bennett Lloyd and his wife Joanna, Philadelphia, c.1781–1782 Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 inches Benbridge painted the Maryland Lloyds shortly after their arrival in Philadelphia from Paris, where they had been raising funds for the Revolutionary War e ort. ough a Patriot, Lloyd had himself painted in his beloved Coldstream Guards uniform to commemorate his earlier service in the elite British unit.
