✷ 120 ✷ FROM THE COLLECTION OF… FROM THE COLLECTION OF… PETER J. CLARKE CLARKE GALLERY NEWBURYPORT, MA Arch top guitar made for me by my friend John R. Zeidler. John Zeidler was a master guitar maker par non. I rst met John while driving down South Street in Philadelphia in 1979. I noticed a small shop sign and a guitar. I stopped in and we became friends. John always had a smile and optimistic outlook. My guitar is an arch top. It took him 90 hours to make. John passed away in 2002 at the age of 44. His guitars and mandolins live on and are di cult to nd. I nd my J. R. Zeidler everyday. CHARLES CLARK WOODBURY, CT A Classical Armchair is beautiful armchair exempli es the Boston preference for English precedents. e maker of this chair was no doubt familiar with the English pattern book, Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exempli ed, published in London by omas King in 1829 and pictured in plate 24. A bobbled internet auction bid connection deprived me of this wonderful chair about ve years ago. Shortly thereafter, I learned a close friend and customer had been successful in procuring this piece by having a fellow dealer have a fellow friend purchase it on his behalf. e convoluted story continues as I traded to nally gain possession. Upon taking the upholstery down I discovered the seat frame was not original. With that, I could not o er the piece for sale so I traded it back and assisted my friend by guiding accurate seat frame reconstruction, wood restoration, and upholstery. After the unfortunate passing of my friend, I came in possession of the chair and I am more than happy to have it in my life.
