✷ 130 ✷ FROM THE COLLECTION OF… FROM THE COLLECTION OF… BETTY KRULIK BETTY KRULIK FINE ART, NEWYORK, NY My husband and I began collecting photography because it was not a con ict of interest for either of us. We loved learning about the medium together. When we went to fairs, we would not say what we liked until the very end; if we liked the same thing we would buy it. We, very often, found numerous works that we both loved. We tend to respond to documentary photography, and powerful images. Sebastiao Salgado is an amazing documentary photographer. We were drawn to this photograph not only as a document of the inhuman conditions in the Serra Pelada gold mine in northern Brazil, but compositionally, it has a strong reference to the the hand of God reaching out to Adam in Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. GREG KRAMER GREG K. KRAMER & CO., ROBESONIA, PA Grandma & Grandpa’s Bucket Bench Miller Family, Lebanon Co., PA, early to mid 19th c. My grandparents on mother’s side of the family resided in a large Victorian house lled with many family treasures. One item, on the back closed-in porch, was lled with canning jars, etc., and it always appealed to me —the red bench. In 1972, having moved into their house for a two year stay, my collecting interests mainly involved smalls and not furniture. One day grandma commented on family members having interest in the bench. My response was to o er $600.00 for the bench. She responded “no,” and said instead that I could have it. I told her that I wanted her to o er the item to the family members who would like it and if they wanted to pay more than $600.00, it would be theirs. Well, the bench is still with me today, but it was a serious struggle to get grandma to accept the $600.00.
