Cherry Condition: Fine condition, original slip seat, retains an old varnish finish The serpentine crest rail with carved shell and scroll ears above a pierced splat centered with a tassel, the astragal slip-seat frame carved with a shell and joining frontal cabriole legs with shell-carved knees and ending in ball-and-claw feet, the seat rail and original seat frame with Roman numeral II. Provenance: Charles C. Willis, Newtown, Pennsylvania 1955; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, sold with the approval of the trustees to benefit acquisition funds, Christie’s September 24, 2012, lot 16; Kelly Kinzle, Oxford, Pennsylvania.
