Museum Director Timothy Rub engages Curator Emerita Beatrice Garvan and David Barquist , the H. Richard Dietrich, Jr., Curator of American Decorative Arts, about their book American Silver in the Philadelphia Museum of Art . Curated by Alexandra Kirtley , the Montgomery- Garvan Curator of American Decorative Arts, this year’s loan exhibition features American silver from the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The centerpiece is a monumental vase and stand, made in 1829 by Philadelphia silversmith Thomas Fletcher for a commission from New York retailer Baldwin Gardiner. This work is surrounded by a dozen examples dating from the 1690s through the 1980s that reveal a brilliant array of forms, uses, and decoration.
