Philadelphia Antiques Show 2019

5 Tributes Anne F. Hamilton: A Philadelphia Icon The Philadelphia Antiques and Art Show, one of the city’s seminal events, wouldn’t be what it is today without Anne F. Hamilton. She has been a dynamic presence behind the show’s stature and success for more than half of its duration, and was the catalyst for its revival after a year’s hiatus in 2015. Last year she was instrumental in the successful transition of the iconic show from its founding beneficiary, Penn Medicine, to its new beneficiary, the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As a museum trustee and a show veteran, Hamilton understood that the city’s leading cultural institution would be an ideal steward for the event, offering it the potential to evolve and flourish. Raised in Philadelphia, Hamilton has always taken pride in the premier event that celebrates and sustains the region’s history. She has been an important part of the show’s leadership, serving for several years as its chair and as a member of the Advisory Committee. A consummate volunteer, she rises to any challenge and has always simply done whatever was needed to make the show successful. She has cheerfully assisted in various roles, including committee head, troubleshooter, fund- raiser, waitress, dishwasher, and even bartender, pushing the drink cart through the aisles while six months pregnant! Throughout the years and continuing with the 2019 show, Hamilton has always made sure that everyone involved with the event enjoys a rewarding experience. The show’s dealers appreciate that she knows their names, asks about their families and businesses, and directs friends to their booths. Volunteers marvel at her energy and talent, and note with admiration that she never asks them to do anything she would not do herself. Patrons and underwriters cannot seem to say no to Hamilton because she makes each one feel valued and important. Her caring attitude, graciousness, and generosity imbue the show with goodwill each year. Hamilton’s impact on the antiques world does not end with the show. She has played a part in notable antiques events up and down the East Coast, including chairing the Newport Show and being active in both the Chester County and Main Line shows. A tribute to Anne must also recognize that this energetic and generous philanthropist has used her talents to profoundly benefit children, health care, education, and animals, to name just a few of the causes that she supports. Hamilton challenges herself and those around her to set the bar high and achieve great things. Like the show she has long championed, she is a Philadelphia icon.
