Washington Winter Show 2010

7 6 January 2011 Dear Guests, As Honorary Chairs of the inaugural Washington Winter Show, Julia and I take great pleasure in welcoming you to celebrate “Georgetown: Over 200 Years of Style.” We commend the many volunteers who have created and organized this remarkable event; through their efforts, the success of this show will benefit four dynamic local charities that focus on healthcare and education for economically disadvantaged children. It is their hope and ours that visitors to the show will take advantage of the opportunity to become acquainted with the missions of these organizations and learn about their work in the local community. This occasion also provides the Washington region with the opportunity to seek and discover intriguing objects from both sides of the Atlantic among the prominent galleries represented here. Respect for culture and history, evident in our shared admiration of the decorative arts, is an important thread in the rich fabric of the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. Georgetown itself exemplifies our links — a port town named for King George II has at the same time long been synonymous with social and intellectual life in the nation’s Capital.
