The day-to-day joys of childhood and adolescence take a back seat to the rigors of treatment and hospitalization. When a child is sick, life as they’ve known it is replaced by a life centered on doctors and procedures and test results. Starlight MidAtlantic is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities. Unlike any other charity, Starlight MidAtlantic provides a unique blend of programs and services delivered both in and out of the hospital to make everyday a little bit brighter - from the moment a child is diagnosed throughout the entire course of treatment. It includes a TV, DVD player, and a Nintendo Wii game system. Great Escapes TM free fun-filled events for seriously ill children and their families to make new friends and create memories outside of the hospital. Starlight Sites TM kid friendly playrooms in the hospital where doctors must check their white coats at the door. Day Brighteners free tickets provided as a surprise to families for sporting events, concerts and other events such as the circus or Disney on Ice. Radio Flyer Wagons used in place of wheelchairs or gurneys, to transport pediatric patients to and from surgeries, treatment rooms, and playrooms. Hospital Happenings ® monthly parties with entertain- ers and crafts for pediatric patients and their visitors. Since 1999, Starlight MidAtlantic has helped families survive when the crisis of serious childhood illness strikes. 454 Fun Centers TM 29 PC Pals ® have been place in 132 hospitals. 11 Starlight Sites TM have been designed and constructed in 11 hospitals. 398 Great Escapes TM events held for 15,938 Starlight children, siblings, and parents. 1749 Hospital Happenings ® in 46 hospitals.
