51 SPECTACULAR BALTIMORE INLAID MAHOGANY HEPPLEWHITE CARD TABLE CIRCA 1795 Quarter-fan inlays in the corners of a spectacular solid one-board mahogany top of incredible grain, coupled with a rare original side drawer, oval thistle inlays and supported by elegant carved spade feet. Truly a one-of-a-kind statement. We know of no other card table with the same inlaid top although one that shares several other qualities is pictured in “Baltimore Furniture 1760–1810” published by the Baltimore Museum of Art, 1947, page 39. We have never seen another mahogany board of such vibrant color and grain pattern. The exceptional attention to detail, for example in the string inlay on the inner surfaces of the top, indicate that it could only have been made by one of the foremost cabinetmakers in Baltimore in the 1790s. The card table is in excellent overall structural condition with great color.
