As a native Southerner, I could not be more delighted with the theme of this year’s show, which celebrates all that we from the South have come to know and love: our traditions. Whether it’s an appreciation for great food, fine furniture or memorable literature, it is of paramount importance to continue passing those traditions on to future generations. The organizers of this year’s show have worked tirelessly to bring Southern traditions alive for us. While here, be sure you take the time to enjoy not only the antiques and extraordinary Stratford Hall loan exhibit, but also the lectures featuring the Lee Brothers and Julia Reed, both of which will take you on a Southern hospitality and culinary adventure. And the Southern experience won’t be complete without some jazz, barbeque and bourbon on Saturday evening. As you enjoy the weekend’s activities, please also keep in mind that proceeds from the Washington Winter Show help three of our region’s best charities – The Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, THEARC, and the Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services. These nonprofits are making a significant difference in the lives of underserved families living in our community. As the presenting sponsor of the show and a company dedicated to strengthening and enriching the lives of those in our region, we are honored to support these charities’ tremendous work. Congratulations to all who have worked to create the 2014 Washington Winter Show, which again promises to be an exceptional event. Enjoy! Michael N.
