Washington Winter Show 12 Schedule of Events Thursday, January 7, 2016 Preview night 6:00 pm — 6:30 pm Sponsors, Benefactors, & Designers Champagne Reception »advance reservation required« Sponsors, Benefactors and Designers are invited to a private early viewing of both the Loan Exhibit and the Show. Sip champagne as you mingle with our honored guests and have the first look at the fascinating antiques available for purchase. The reception includes admission to the Gala Patrons and Young Collectors Reception, admission throughout the run of the Show and a Show catalogue. 6:30 pm — 9:00 pm Gala Patrons & Young Collectors Reception »advance reservation required« Celebrate the opening of the 61st Annual Washington Winter Show, The Washington Antiques Show. Guests will enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and an elegant buffet dinner prepared by Susan Gage Caterers while previewing the Loan Exhibit and the Show. Friday, January 8, 2016 10:30 am – 1:30 pm Lecture & Luncheon “Inviting the Generations to the Table” with James Farmer »reservation required« A professional garden, floral and interior designer, cook, author and lifestyle expert, James Farmer is a young, fresh voice for his generation. His love of Southern food, culture and cooking have put him at the forefront of the garden- to-table lifestyle. He developed an early appreciation for fresh, seasonal foods cooking at the side of his grandmother, whose Southern heirloom recipes he has revitalized for contemporary tastes. Mr. Farmer is author of several best-selling books including A Time to Plant, A Time to Cook, and Dinner on the Grounds. In addition, Mr. Farmer is editor-at-large of Southern Living and a frequent guest on television and radio. Whether he’s teaching how to plan the perfect summer picnic, using everyday items to create exquisite tabletops, creating drop-dead gorgeous flower arrangements and wreaths, or making his grandmother’s skillet peach pie, Mr. Farmer masterfully guides his audience through the art of elegant garden living. Saturday, January 9, 2016 9:00am —11:00 am Appraisals »open to the public« Bring your own treasures and have dealers share information about your items and provide a verbal appraisal, $1o per item. 12:00pm • Guided Walk “Finding value in Asian Art” Pamela Cole, Asian Decorative Arts Specialist and member of the Potomack Company Auction House team, will explore Asian art throughout the show. 2:00pm —3:00 pm Lecture “Infinite Resources: The Dawn of the Interactive Design Book and stuff” with Carey Maloney Author of Stuff: The M (Group) Interactive Guide to Collecting, Decorating With, and Learning About Wonderful and Unusual Things and an ardent collector since the age of five, Carey Maloney will share his experience traveling the world to find and collect great “stuff.” He will explore the fascinating objects that he and his clients have found in the hopes of inspiring all of us to explore new areas of collecting. Carey Maloney is a partner, along with architect Hermes Mallea, at M (Group), an architecture and interior design firm based in Manhattan. Sunday, January 10, 2016 1:00pm —2:30 pm • Sundaes on Sunday »reservations required« Children ages 8 to 12 years old are invited to discover the fascinating world of collecting. First, there will be a special tour of the Show and scavenger hunt designed to appeal to their interests. Afterwards, George Mason and his daughter will invite them to a make their own ice cream sundaes. Event is limited to 30 children. Free with admission to the Show.
