Washington Winter Show 2017

This page is sponsored by Hannah Cox in honor of Mason Bavin welcome the washington Winter Show M y fellow directors and I want to congratulate our talented, organized, and enthusiastic Show Chairs, Liz Holleman Brown and Susan Dowhower Burke, and their hardworking committee. They all have devoted much time and talent to creating our amazing 2017 Show, The Art of Style. We cannot thank them enough. Their tireless dedication to this vast undertaking has enabled us to once again support our three wonderful charities—The Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services, THEARC, and The Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys—as they continue to provide exceptional services for at-risk children and families in our community. We would also like to express our deep appreciation to our patrons for their continued steadfast support. Without you there would be no Show. Many others deserve our special thanks, beginning with our 2017 Diplomatic Chair, His Excellency Gérard Araud, Ambassador of France to the United States. Profound thanks go also to Amy de la Haye and Jeffie Pike Durham for bringing us this fascinating loan exhibit, Coco Chanel: A New Portrait by Marion Pike, Paris 1967– 1971, and their accompanying article, “Women, Friendship, and the Evolution of an Exhibition.” This memorable exhibit is making its debut in the United States at the Washington Winter Show. Thanks are due also to Lela Rose and Chip Calloway for graciously agreeing to be our guest speakers; to Nina McLemore for her interesting article, “Thoughts on the Style of Fashion”; and to Inslee Fariss for designing the artwork that graces the catalogue cover. Another group of outstanding individuals has provided wonderful pro bono support: David Ottenbreit, of Gnaurus Advisors LLC, who serves as our Treasurer; Robert Benton, Jill Franzen, and Philip Davis of Wiley Rein LLP; William J. Curtin, Jr., of Hogan Lovells US LLC for his close association and guidance; and Timothy Lyden of Hogan Lovells US LLC. We would also like to thank the many hard-working professionals who have contributed so much to the success of our Show. These include James Merrifield, Lisa Aker, Ethan Hick, and the staffs of the Katzen Center and American University, with whom it is always a pleasure to work; Karen and Ralph DiSaia, our brilliant Show Managers, for continuing to produce an exciting antiques show, with the help of Stacey Exposition Services; Lisa Carey and Matt Hirschmann, of Lucid Creative Partners LLC, for developing our amazing new website and for their innovative graphic designs, which each year so beautifully illustrate our Show’s theme; Amanda Reynolds, who has transformed our social media approach and outreach to supporters and to the press; Nick Del Borello and his superb staff, who over the past ten years have played such a critical role in the successful operation of our Show, from load-in to load-out; Judd Ashman, of Elegant Envelope, who each year does a magnificent job managing our address list and mailings; Antiques & Fine Art magazine, the publisher of our outstanding catalogue; Susan Gage, of Susan Gage Caterers, whose creative menus, delicious food, and outstanding service continue to contribute to the great success of our Preview Night Reception and Friday Luncheon; Tracy Stannard, of Broad Branch Market, our wonderful Eagle Café caterer; and John K. Mullins, of Mullins P.C., our excellent accountant. Finally, we would like to thank our amazing Executive Director, Jonathan G. Willen, and his super assistant, Georgina Palma, whose knowledge, enthusiasm, and good humor are the major reason why we can present a successful Show year after year. The Washington Winter Show continues to grow and thrive each year thanks to the tireless efforts of all of you! With great appreciation, Mason Bavin President, Board of Directors 7
