From Gilbert Stuart’s unfinished portrait of the first president, to Emanuel Leutze’s dramatic tableau of Washington Crossing the Delaware, and from his omnipresent visage on the American dollar to the soaring monument, which dominates the city that bears his name — George Washington, the Father of Our Country, is an American icon. The 2020 Washington Winter Show explores his enduring image, which continues to play a pivotal role in developing America’s image of itself, its history, and its future. It is our great honor and privilege to serve as Co-Chairs of the 2020 Washington Winter Show and to welcome you to this year’s exciting event. For sixty-five years, devoted volunteers have given their valuable time, creativity, and patronage in order to ensure the finest and most beautiful show possible — which, in turn, supports under-served and at-risk children and families throughout our city. The show benefits three outstanding charities and invaluable community assets: THEARC, The Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, and The Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services. This year’s loan exhibition, Icons of America: George Washington and Beyond , showcases a wide variety of fine and decorative arts which depict images of George Washington, eagles, as well as natural wonders which symbolized the new nation during the early years of the Republic. We are incredibly grateful to the Winterthur Museum in Delaware for providing these truly magnificent objects and for curating such a thought-provoking exhibit. We also thank the exhibition curator, Leslie B. Grigsby, as well as Winterthur CEO, Carol Borchert Cadou for their expertise and time. We are honored to welcome our Honorary Diplomatic Chair, His Excellency Noel Anderson Lynch, the Ambassador of Barbados. During this past year, the unending enthusiasm, support, and direction of the Washington Winter Show’s Board of Directors has proven to be both encouraging and indispensable. Without the Board’s dedicated leadership, along with our extraordinary dealers, the Show’s continued success would not be possible. We would especially like to thank Anne Elmore, the Board President, for her commitment and gracious leadership. Our tremendous gratitude also goes to each of our remarkable volunteers whose collective talents and assistance are second-to-none. We are extremely grateful to PNC Wealth Management for its thirteenth year of support as our presenting sponsor. We truly appreciate PNC’s generous and ongoing commitment. We would also like to sincerely thank all of our sponsors, benefactors, and patrons for their support of the Show and continuing the missions of our charities. We sincerely thank the staff of Jonathan G. Willen & Associates for their exceptional talents, vision, and never-ending hard work! WE ALSO WISH TO EXTEND OUR SINCERE APPRECIATION TO: • Ben Pentreath, internationally famed architect and interior designer, for serving as our Friday luncheon speaker. • Whitney Robinson, Barrie Benson, Lauren Liess, and Tom Scheerer for sharing their impeccable interior design talents on our design panel. • Tom Savage, Director of External Affairs for Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library, for enriching us with his knowledge of history in our Saturday lecture. • Betsy Nathan, Michael Keeley, Chris Lane, and Glen Leroux for lending their expertise to our dealer talks and guided walks. • The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association for generously allowing usage of historical images from its collection. • Mount Gay Rum for its contribution of spirits for our signature cocktail. • Fine Paints of Europe for beautiful and historically accurate paint for our entrance corridor. • Dr. Susan P.
