He worked for seven years as Senior Vice President and Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art for North and South America where he directed The Sotheby’s American Arts Course, a professional training program in American fine and decorative arts. From 1981 until 1998, he was Curator and Director of Museums for the Historic Charleston Foundation. A native of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, Mr. Savage earned his BA in Art History from The College of William and Mary, and his MA in History Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program of the State University of New York. Mr. Savage is the author of The Charleston Interior (Legacy Publications, 1995) and contributed the essay on the Carolina Low Country to Colonial Williamsburg’s Southern Furniture 1680–1830: The Colonial Williamsburg Collection published by Abrams (1997). Event limited to 30 children. 10:30 am — 1:30 pm Lecture & Luncheon Designing to the Rhythms of Time WITH BEN PENTREATH »advance reservation required: $150 per person, $1500 table of ten« Ben Pentreath is one of the UK’s leading architectural and interior designers whose architectural projects range from large-scale urban developments, to large and small private houses. His interior decoration work ranges from romantic castles, to English country houses, to smaller homes in the country and London. Above all, Ben enjoys designing places that work beautifully for the long term. He is inspired by tradition and a respect for carefully detailed, authentic materials and design, combined with a love of contemporary culture, which means that life is never dull. Ben studied Art History at the University of Edinburgh before attending the Prince of Wales’s Institute of Architecture. He worked for five years in New York and then with the Prince’s Foundation, before starting his own practice in 2004. Ben is the author of English Decoration (2011), followed by English Houses (2016), and in 2021 he will publish a monograph of his firm’s work over the last 15 years with Rizzoli.
