56 The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati Anderson House, 2118 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20008 |  americanrevolutioninstitute.org The American Revolution Institute marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a new exhibition Voices of Revolution, which will be on view at our headquarters, Anderson House, February 28, 2026–January 10, 2027. Featuring the words, belongings, and likenesses of a variety of people who participated in the RevolutionaryWar, the exhibition will use the battlefields where their paths crossed to explore the human experience—what individuals saw and did, where they came from and why, how the war impacted them, and how they impacted the war. We have also produced a new video series, Year in Revolution, available on our website and YouTube channel. Supporting scholarship and promoting popular understanding of the American Revolution is central to the ongoing work of the Institute. Our research library and archives house more than 50,000 items focused on the era of the Revolution and the art of war in the eighteenth century and is open for research by appointment. The Institute welcomes distinguished scholars and authors to share their insights with the public through lectures, author’s talks, and panel discussions held throughout the year. George Mason (1725–1792) was a planter, politician, and intellectual force behind American independence. Best known for authoring the Virginia Declaration of Rights (adopted by the Virginia Convention on June 12, 1776), Mason’s ideas on personal freedoms helped inspire the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Bill of Rights, the 1789 French Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, and the 1948 United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. His principles continue to influence debates on justice and human rights today. Please join us in celebrating America’s 250th, the 250th anniversary of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, and George Mason’s essential contributions to the creation of our nation.
