Charleston Loan Exhibition

W ELCOME TO C HARLESTON IN N EW Y ORK ! 7 he wonder of Charleston seems endless. History, culture, and architecture abound in every viewscape from the tip of the peninsula and the two rivers that encompass it to the expanse of the surrounding Carolina Lowcountry. Sheer beauty pervades as one strolls through the streets and sidewalks of one of America’s most historic cities. The beauty of the harbor is magical as it ebbs and flows into the salt marshes of this bustling port city. Adjacent to the harbor are the distinctive 18th and 19th century houses, churches, and civic buildings that collectively form a virtual architectural laboratory. And it is inside these magnificent residences and buildings that one finds some of this country’s most exceptional examples of material culture. The trustees and staff of Historic Charleston Foundation have the enormous privilege of presenting this extraordinary collection of some of the finest decorative objects of Charleston origin ever assembled for the 57th annual Winter Antiques Show. Using objects from the Foundation’s two museum houses, the Nathaniel Russell and Aiken-Rhett houses, as the centerpiece for the loan exhibit, we are honored to also include exceptional objects from other stellar Charleston institutions, thus assembling the very best of Charleston for the edification and enjoyment of the guests attending the prestigious Winter Antiques Show. The loan exhibition, Grandeur Preserved: Masterworks Presented by Historic Charleston Foundation , affords us the opportunity to highlight our magnificent historic city and its decorative and fine arts in New York. It also gives us the opportunity to issue an invitation to the show attendees to visit our splendid city and to see these objects amidst the ambience and wonder of Charleston. Enjoy the show!
