Pennsylvania Antiques Show 2026
13 star flags have been produced in America from 1777 to the present. Although the Stars & Stripes was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on June 14th of that year, only a few generic elements were mentioned. Beyond the number of stars, stripes, and the basic colors (shades unspecified), the remainder of the design was left to the liberties of the maker. The above configurations of 13 stars demonstrate the incredible variation across surviving antique examples. These represent just a scattering of the more than 1,000 flags in the 13 star count, alone, that we have had the great privilege to own over the past 35 years, the majority of these made during the 19th century, though some in the early 20th, and a precious, elite few in the 18th century. 13 star flags have been produced in America from 1777 to the present.
