Silva was best known for his coastal views and marine paintings, becoming one of the leading members of the luminist style in the mid-to-late 19th century. Evolving from a self-taught artist, he had a remarkably skillful technique, most notably with atmospheric e ects that varied little throughout his career. is wonderful view of e Beach Near Port Judith, Rhode Island certainly captures his talent, which received much acclaim among his contemporaries and patrons of the period.
