the top 100 collectors in America. Their principle interest is folk art — although, more specifically in Penn- sylvania German materials, ceramics, Shaker, Native American art, and fire memorabilia. They have person- ally curated five loan exhibits for the Philadelphia Antiques Show. Joan Johnson: Joan Johnson has been an associate Chairman of the Philadelphia Antiques Show since 1976 and co- chaired the New York American Antiques Show for many years. She is an active member of the Folk Art Society. A long time member of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she co- chairs the American Arts Committee. Additionally she is a past board member of the American Folk Art Museum and a past trustee of the Mercer Museum. As an interior designer, she has created many new collectors of American material and is always “on the hunt” herself; constantly up-grading because there is no more room in her home for more antiques! Richard Rossello: Richard Rossello, owner of Avery Galleries, spent the first part of his career in a restaurant operating company, and had an enduring passion for American art. He is a lifelong collector and avidly pursued collecting opportunities as an avocation. After a life “wakeup” call at the age of 48, he decided that life was too short to do anything by half measure, retired from his company and founded Avery Galleries. The gallery was founded on two guiding principles and they have become bedrock beliefs of the company. First, was to manage the quality of the art sold by purchasing it outright rather than taking art on consignment. This “put your money where your mouth is” orientation has allowed Avery to focus on works deemed to be most desirable. Second, Rossello only buys paintings that he would want to own personally. These tenets have helped Avery Galleries to establish a reputation for consistent quality in the works of art offered. John Smiroldo: John S. Smiroldo is president and founder of InCollect.com, the innovative new site where collectors are inspired by and can acquire classic and modern art and period design from top dealers, and of Antiques & Fine Art, the nation’s leading magazine for discovering and learning about antiques and art. In 1990, Smiroldo founded Pure Imaging, Inc., followed by AFA Publishing, both of which focus on print production and vanity press publications. His personal collection focuses on American Modernist art and mid-century furniture, with an emphasis on artists active in New Hope, PA. W 13 W
